Die Hotline antwortet: Hilfe, ich kann nicht bearbeiten!

We are launching a new section on our website in which we aim to make commonly asked hotline topics publicly available. Our goal is to help our partners identify the root causes of issues and find solutions to them.

In our first article, we would like to provide assistance to users of the Measuring device managementt and/or CMMS Maintenance modules.

Recently, we have received several emails and calls from partners reporting that in the Measuring device management or CMMS maintenance module, the user can see a given measuring device / production machine in the list, but cannot edit it or initiate an event—meaning that the function icons for the given item are inactive.

Another frequently asked question is how it can happen that one user sees certain devices in the list while another user does not see them at all.

The cause of the above phenomena most likely lies in the measuring device / production machine types.

What is a type?

Types categorize and make our equipments filterable. They allow us to generate reports and lists by type, and to view inspection plans and related tasks.

However, types also carry rights, and based on the rights assigned to them, users can edit devices, record events, or even see them in the list.

Rights assigned to types

Register rights

Users with this right can add devices of the given type to the list and edit their data.

Event documentating rights

Required for users to record events such as repairs, periodic inspections, MSA, or calibration.

Edit data scope

Assigning a device to a person or transferring it to another location of use is only possible with this right.

Devices visible only to those with the right

If this setting is active, the user will only see the device in the list if they have been granted at least one of the above rights in advance.

Key takeaway:

If different users see different items in a list, or certain icons are inactive for some users but not others, the first step should be to check the type of the given measuring device / production machine and the permissions defined there.

To do this, you need to contact someone in your organization who has the appropriate configuration rights—typically the t-method software administrator or system administrator.

…and if this still doesn’t solve the issue?

If no assets appear at all or all icons are inactive for every devices, then the user’s permission group should be checked. Permission groups determine whether a user has the right to see items in the device list or to document any events at all. Defining user right groups is also the responsibility of the t-method administrator.

I’ve checked everything, but still…

If you have verified both the right groups and the types and still do not have the required functions, our hotline service—available with software maintenance contract—can be reached by phone or email and will be happy to assist in resolving the issue.
